The Namesake

Ashoke and Ashima Ganguli (Irfan Khan and Tabu) are a recently married couple from Calcutta who move to New York after their arranged marriage. As their family begins to grow in their adopted land, their son Gogol (Kal Penn) goes through the challenge of finding his unique identity without losing his heritage.

This movie is full of insightful observations about American and Indian cultures. It’s great attention to detail makes it at times sad and funny in many subtle ways.

Grade: B
