Melvin B. Tolson (Denzel Washington) is a debate coach at historically black Wiley College during the Jim Crow 1930’s. He shapes his students into an elite debate team, which is eventually invited to take part in a debate with Harvard University.
It’s fun to learn about something that really happened while at the same time being entertained by a movie which is at times moving, sad and funny.
Grade: B+
